The USA Island Boys are set to make their debut in the Rams Group of Companies 10th Sanatan World Cup, which kicks off in Sydney tomorrow. Under the guidance of renowned coach Gurjit Singh, the team will compete in the Over 40s category.
Managed by Ashnil and Rajneel Prasad, the Island Boys, formed just last year, have achieved significant success in various soccer tournaments throughout the Bay Area in California. This year, they have excelled, clinching victories in all major tournaments, including the prestigious NAFSA tournament, where they faced off against top American and Canadian clubs.
In an interview, Coach Singh expressed the team’s enthusiasm and determination to perform well at the World Cup. “We are going to give our best at this tournament and show our good sportsmanship as we are representing the USA,” he said.
Key players for the team include former Nasinu representatives Rup Edward and Virend Singh, as well as former USA All Stars goalkeeper Kevin Dip and Lawrence Dutt. Additionally, guest players Sudeshwar Ram, Nitan Kumar, and Shiva Goundar, all former Tailevu Naitasiri players, have joined the squad to bolster their experience. The Island Boys will begin their campaign against Lautoka Sanatan at 7 PM tomorrow.
