Iran’s Defence Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh issued a firm warning that Tehran will retaliate if the United States or Israel launch attacks against Iran. His remarks came in response to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s vow to respond decisively after a missile launched by the Iran-backed Houthi group hit near Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport, alarming local residents and travelers.
Nasirzadeh declared that any hostilities initiated by the U.S. or Israel would result in Iran targeting their interests and military bases across the region, stating, “wherever they may be and whenever deemed necessary.” This reflects Iran’s ongoing commitment to supporting its allies, such as the Houthis, who have conducted multiple missile attacks against Israel purportedly in solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza.
Netanyahu, for his part, condemned the Houthi attack and asserted that retaliatory measures would be taken against both the Houthis and their “Iranian terror masters.” Reports indicate that Israel is considering a strategic response that is timed and coordinated.
In light of the increased tensions, which have seen the United States conducting strikes against Houthi positions in Yemen, Nasirzadeh emphasized that Iran does not harbor hostility toward its neighbors; however, any aggression will be met with a resolute defense of its sovereignty. He further noted that the U.S. bases in the region would be considered legitimate targets in the event of a conflict.
Adding to the tense atmosphere, Iran recently unveiled a new solid-fuel ballistic missile, the “Qassem Bassir,” with a range of 1,200 kilometers (approximately 750 miles), showcasing its military capabilities amid rising regional instability.
The current scenario illustrates the volatile interactions among Iran, Israel, and the United States, escalating the potential for broader conflict in the Middle East. Yet, amid these tensions, international diplomatic efforts continue to identify pathways for de-escalation, fostering hope for a more stable future in the region.
As situations evolve, the global community’s engagement remains crucial in addressing immediate security concerns and paving the way for long-term peace.
