Olympic gold medalist and 7s World Cup winner Iosefo Masi is reportedly in discussions with French Top 14 club Lyon.
According to reports from French media, Lyon is interested in signing Masi as a replacement for Semi Radradra. The club’s management views Masi as a perfect candidate to strengthen their center pairing, especially given his impressive handling skills and physical play, which could provide a significant boost to a team that faced a tough relegation battle during the 2023/2024 season.
It is still uncertain whether Masi’s potential move to Lyon hinges on Radradra’s future with the team. Radradra joined Lyon in the summer of 2023 and appeared in 10 matches during his debut season after the World Cup. If he does not receive a contract extension, he will become a free agent in July 2025.
Masi, 26, began his career with the Fiji 7s team, contributing to their Olympic gold medal victory in 2021 under coach Gareth Baber. He also secured the Melrose Cup before transitioning to the 15s format, where he signed with Fijian Drua. The Taveuni native enjoyed a successful two seasons with Drua, scoring 16 tries in 29 matches, earning him a call-up to represent the Flying Fijians.
Most recently, Masi added to his accolades by winning a silver medal with the Fiji 7s team at the Paris Olympics.
