The Fijian government has allocated $900,000 for clean and safe drinking water projects in the villages of Niurua and Naqumu, located in Macuata. This announcement was made by Macuata provincial administrator Revoni Rakasa during a presentation at the Macuata Provincial Council meeting held in Sasa Village on Friday.

Rakasa noted that the government is investing a substantial $637 million to enhance infrastructure and services throughout the northern division, which includes Macuata. “The Government is focused on ensuring that the people in the Northern Division, including Macuata, have access to essential services,” she emphasized.

The allocated funds are intended for crucial projects involving the maintenance and improvement of roads, water supply, communications, and market access. Several projects have already been identified for these investments, although Rakasa acknowledged that while the government is committed to helping those in need, responses may take some time to implement.

In addition to the current funding, she highlighted the government’s previous commitment to disaster relief, underlining that over $655 million has been spent on recovery efforts following natural disasters last year. These initiatives demonstrate a proactive approach to support communities in their recovery and development.

This investment not only aims to improve immediate access to clean water but also reflects a broader commitment to enhance the living conditions and infrastructure in the region, paving the way for better health and economic opportunities.

In a time where safe drinking water is essential for health and wellbeing, this initiative can be seen as a hopeful step towards creating a sustainable and resilient future for the residents of Niurua and Naqumu. The government’s dedication to improving infrastructure and responding to the needs of the community is a positive indication of progress in the region.
