Investigation Unfolds: No One Above the Law in Drug Case

Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua has emphasized that no one is above the law in light of the ongoing investigation into convicted drug smuggler Aiyaz Mohammed Musa Umarji. Mr. Tikoduadua stated that the government has a clear stance regarding drug-related crimes and those involved in such activities.

He acknowledged awareness of the investigation surrounding Mr. Musa’s return to the country but refrained from providing specific details due to the active nature of the inquiry. “What I can reiterate is the government’s strong position on drug-related crimes,” he said, reiterating the commitment to combatting illicit narcotics.

The minister affirmed that law enforcement efforts will continue to be supported and highlighted the importance of following due process in every investigation. He reiterated that the ultimate goal is to protect communities from the harmful impacts of drug-related activities.

Mr. Musa was released from a New Zealand prison after serving time for his involvement in importing pseudoephedrine, an essential component in meth production. The Fiji Police Criminal Investigations Department and Serious Organised Crime are currently investigating him for alleged misappropriation of funds, illegal importation of controlled substances, money laundering, and handling the proceeds of crime.
