A well-known resort on the Coral Coast has announced a comprehensive investigation following reports of “alcohol poisoning” that resulted in seven women being hospitalized. The Ministry of Health and local police have initiated inquiries, with toxicology test results expected within two to three days.
Dr. Jemesa Tudrau, the permanent secretary for Health, emphasized the need for caution, stating, “The real cause has not been identified as investigations continue.” Similarly, the Minister for Tourism, Viliame Gavoka, urged restraint, saying, “We’d like to wait for the results. We don’t want to speculate.”
The affected guests, which included four Australians, one American, and two foreign residents, experienced symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and neurological issues after having a cocktail on Saturday. They were admitted to Aspen Medical Hospital in Lautoka the following day, where one guest was discharged while two others remained in stable condition.
The resort’s director of human resources, Nitin Goundar, confirmed that they have begun their internal investigation, examining CCTV footage, bar records, and other relevant data. “This is an isolated incident. Of all those served the same drink that day, only seven were affected,” he stated. Goundar assured that the ingredients used in the drinks had been thoroughly checked and that other drinks served on the same day did not cause any issues.
The bar in question operates only during the day and is situated next to an adults-only pool. Goundar reiterated that guest safety is a top priority for the resort, which has been operating for 45 years without similar incidents. He mentioned that the resort’s staff are internationally trained and adhere to strict hygiene protocols.
“We are collaborating closely with law enforcement and the Ministry of Health to assist in their investigations,” Goundar added, while assuring that the operations of the resort remain unaffected. “Guests are enjoying themselves, and we’ve explained the situation to them. Our priority is to ensure the safety and satisfaction of all our guests.”
This situation serves as a reminder of the importance of safety protocols in hospitality, and the resort’s proactive approach in addressing the incident may help reassure visitors and strengthen their trust in the establishment.
In summary, the Coral Coast resort is taking significant steps to investigate an isolated incident involving seven hospitalized guests, emphasizing safety and compliance as they work alongside authorities. This approach highlights the commitment of the resort to maintain a safe environment for all guests while awaiting further information.
