The investigation led by the Commission of Inquiry into the boxing incident involving the late Ubayd Haider is set to conclude this week, as confirmed by the chairperson, Edwin Wainiqolo. In a recent interview, Wainiqolo noted that they are in the final stages of the investigation, with only one individual remaining to be questioned: former South Pacific Boxing Promotion promoter, Fredy Chand.
Wainiqolo mentioned that they have already conducted interviews with Mohammed Shameem and expressed gratitude towards Chand for his willingness to assist in the investigation, despite the challenges posed by time zone differences as he resides overseas.
The findings of this investigation will be submitted directly to Jese Saukuru, the Minister of Youth and Sports. Should any clarifications be required, Wainiqolo indicated that a press conference will be held to communicate the issues and findings effectively.
This investigation marks an important step towards addressing concerns in the boxing community and ensuring accountability. The cooperation of involved parties and the prompt conclusion of the inquiry signal a commitment to transparency and justice for all stakeholders.
As the investigation wraps up, it brings hope for improved safety standards and practices in the sport, which could ultimately contribute to a more secure environment for athletes.
