The investigation into the boxing incident involving the late Ubayd Haider is expected to conclude this week, as confirmed by Edwin Wainiqolo, Chairperson of the Commission of Inquiry. In a recent interview, Wainiqolo stated that only one interview remains—conducting the questioning of Fredy Chand, the former promoter for South Pacific Boxing Promotions.
While Mohammed Shameem has already been interviewed, Chand, who currently resides overseas, has volunteered to assist with the investigation. Wainiqolo noted that the planned interview with Chand had to be rescheduled due to time differences.
Once the investigation wraps up, the findings will be submitted directly to Jese Saukuru, the Minister of Youth and Sports. Should any clarifications be necessary, a press conference will be announced to elaborate on the issues and outcomes of the investigation.
This ongoing investigation reflects a commitment to transparency and accountability within the sports community, which is essential for ensuring the safety and well-being of athletes. As the commission prepares to release its findings, it showcases a diligent approach toward understanding the circumstances surrounding this tragic event. Hopefully, this will lead to constructive changes within the boxing industry.
