Investigation Delays Leave Ubayd Haider’s Family Waiting for Answers

The family of the late boxer Ubayd Haider is still awaiting answers regarding his case as a Board of Inquiry (BOI) continues its investigation. During a media conference in Nadi, BOI chairman Edwin Wainiqolo stated that they are experiencing delays due to challenges encountered with various stakeholders involved in the case.

Out of 17 stakeholders linked to the South Pacific Boxing event that took place in October, 12 have already been interviewed in the course of the three-week investigation. However, five stakeholders remain to be interviewed, with many of them located offshore, complicating the process. Wainiqolo noted that additional issues have arisen in recent weeks, which have made it challenging to engage with these stakeholders. Some have opted to consult with private practitioners, further complicating the timeline the BOI initially aimed to follow.

Wainiqolo highlighted that some delays are beyond the BOI’s control, especially concerning international bodies like the International Boxing Organization (IBO), which has decided not to participate in the inquiry due to their own regulations. As a result, the BOI has sought guidance from the office of the solicitor general on how to navigate these complexities.

Currently, Wainiqolo is unable to provide answers regarding potential foul play, post-mortem conclusions, medical examinations, or regulatory compliance issues, stating that these questions will be addressed once the investigation reaches its conclusion.

In a time when families seek closure from tragic events, the continued investigation underscores the importance of thoroughness and diligence in uncovering the truth. While waiting for answers can be frustrating, it is essential that all facets of this case are carefully examined to ensure justice is served.

Summary: The investigation into the death of boxer Ubayd Haider is ongoing, with the Board of Inquiry facing delays due to difficulties in interviewing remaining stakeholders, particularly those residing overseas. Chairman Edwin Wainiqolo emphasized the importance of a comprehensive investigation and indicated that specific inquiries regarding foul play and medical findings will be addressed once the investigation concludes.
