The investigation involving Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) Commissioner Barbara Malimali has been forwarded to the Director of the Criminal Investigations Department for further inquiry.
A statement from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) highlighted that the initial investigation was deemed incomplete. This case was initially handed over to the ODPP by FICAC on September 19, shortly after Malimali’s appointment.
The Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, John Rabuku, along with Acting DPP Nancy Tikoisuva, reviewed the matter. It was concluded that due to the incompleteness of the investigation, the file would be sent to the CID director with a recommendation to finalize the investigation.
Upon completion, the file will return to the ODPP for a comprehensive evaluation of all evidence. The ODPP will provide updates on the findings once the investigation file is received and decisions have been made.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Mesake Waqa confirmed that the investigation file and the accompanying letter from the ODPP have been received. He assured that the proper procedures for registration, investigation, summarization, and return to the ODPP will be adhered to.
