The investigation into the boxing incident that led to the unfortunate death of Ubayd Haider is set to conclude this week, as confirmed by Edwin Wainiqolo, the chairperson of the Commission of Inquiry. In an interview conducted yesterday, Wainiqolo indicated that only one individual remains to be interviewed — former South Pacific Boxing Promotion promoter Fredy Chand.

Wainiqolo stated that they have already spoken with Mohammed Shameem as part of the inquiry process. He expressed gratitude towards Chand, who has volunteered to assist with the investigation despite living overseas. Due to time zone differences, the interview with Chand, originally scheduled for yesterday, had to be postponed.

Once the investigation wraps up, the findings will be forwarded directly to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru. Should there be any need for further clarification on these findings, a press conference will be held to openly discuss the outcomes and any relevant issues.

This thorough investigation demonstrates a commitment to transparency and accountability within the sports community, which is crucial for the safety and wellbeing of athletes. It reflects a proactive approach to understanding and preventing incidents in the future, ensuring that the lessons learned can lead to safer sporting environments.

In summary, the inquiry is nearing its conclusion with one final interview pending, and we can expect a comprehensive report to be shared with the relevant authorities soon.
