The fourth edition of the Fiji Bitter Labasa 7s is underway at Subrail Park, generating excitement among teams, officials, and rugby enthusiasts throughout the Northern region. Teams began arriving in Labasa on Tuesday night, and the Tournament Coordinator, Vika Vataniyaragi, has confirmed that all preparations for the eagerly awaited event are complete.
“The first team to arrive was Baravi Legends on Tuesday night,” Vataniyaragi stated, highlighting the enthusiasm surrounding the tournament. Organizers were kept active on Wednesday as they finalized preparations at the venue.
“We were rushing through our final touches, setting up facilities, and clearing the field. Although we anticipated rain on Wednesday morning, the weather has improved, and we are hopeful for clear skies over the weekend,” she remarked.
A significant boost for the tournament is the involvement of international officials, with renowned referee Rasta Rasivhenge and Fiji Rugby referee manager James Bolabiu hosting referee clinics in Labasa this week. “Having Rasta Rasivhenge and James Bolabiu here to conduct clinics for our referees is timely and helps elevate the standard of officiating for the competition,” Vataniyaragi added. They will officiate on the tournament’s opening day before returning to Viti Levu later in the week.
The excitement continues to build with the arrival of tournament sponsors on Wednesday night. Vataniyaragi has made a heartfelt plea to rugby supporters in the region, encouraging them to come out in large numbers to support the tournament.
“I urge everyone in the North to come out and join us for this spectacular event,” she said.
The Fiji Bitter Labasa 7s is set to provide thrilling rugby action throughout the weekend as teams compete fiercely for top honors at Subrail Park. This event not only promises to showcase incredible athletic talent, but also serves as a great opportunity for community engagement and sportsmanship.
