Interim Fijiana 15s head coach Mike Legge has expressed his deep appreciation for the opportunity to lead the national women’s rugby team, a role he approaches with great seriousness. Having been an integral part of the women’s program since its inception in 2020, Legge brings a wealth of experience and familiarity to this interim position.

In his remarks, Legge described his new role as both humbling and rewarding, reflecting on his extensive involvement in Fiji Rugby’s high-performance pathway. “I’m just really privileged to be in this position. I’ve been part of the women’s program since 2020, when we first had the inaugural women’s high-performance unit come in, and have been part of the program ever since. I’m really honoured and blessed to lead this team in the interim,” he stated.

He also acknowledged the confidence shown in him by Fiji Rugby’s leadership, giving special thanks to board members including Chairman John Sanday, CEO Koli Sewabu, and high-performance general manager Bill Gadolo for their ongoing support and guidance throughout his career.

Naca Cawanibuka, the High Performance General Manager, confirmed the supporting coaching staff that will work alongside Legge during the Test campaign. Kele Leawere will serve as forwards coach, focusing on scrum performance and game-line dominance, while Josh Matavesi will manage the backline unit, concentrating on defensive systems and tactical strategy. Coach Tavaita Rowati will assist in developing core skills within the back division, and Ifereimi Rawaqa will oversee lineout systems and structures.

Cawanibuka also laid out the team’s training schedule. The Fijiana is currently in the first week of national camp, followed by a second week of intensive training. After that, the players will enter a week of Daily Training Environments before regrouping for two final weeks of preparation leading into Test Week against the Wallaroos.

With a strong and supportive coaching team, the Fijiana is gearing up for what promises to be an exciting Test campaign, highlighting the commitment and dedication present within Fiji Rugby’s women’s program. The team’s preparation reflects not only their aspirations for success but also the growing momentum and investment in women’s rugby in Fiji.
