Gurneet Kaur, the head girl at Waiqele Primary School, has achieved a significant milestone by being named the dux of Year Eight. This 13-year-old student distinguished herself by obtaining the highest marks in both her school’s annual examination and the Fiji Eighth Year Examination (FEYE), scoring an impressive 526 out of 600.

Hailing from Kawakawa Settlement and the youngest of three children, Gurneet has dedicated herself to her studies, often studying late into the night and on weekends. Her ambitious goal is to become the first doctor in her family, a dream fueled by witnessing the challenges faced by her community, where residents often travel long distances for medical care. “I want to help my people by providing immediate medical care when needed,” she said, emphasizing her desire to alleviate fears related to health issues such as diabetes.

Gurneet expressed gratitude towards her parents and teachers for their support, acknowledging their crucial role in her academic success. She is motivated to inspire others, particularly those from rural areas, to excel in their educational pursuits regardless of their background.

This story serves as an inspiring reminder that dedication and hard work can pave the way for success, encouraging young people to pursue their dreams and make a positive impact in their communities. Gurneet’s journey exemplifies the idea that with determination and support, anything is possible.
