Reverend Etuate Lasaro delivered an inspiring message to students at Nakorosule District School in Naitasiri, emphasizing the importance of going beyond oneself in education. This school, established more than 60 years ago, has a rich legacy of educating the youth of Naitasiri, with notable alumni such as Dr. Asesela Ravuvu, a former academic and senator.

During the recent annual awards ceremony, the local community came together to celebrate the students’ achievements. Mr. Lasaro and his wife, Dr. Ilisapeci Lasaro, were the chief guests at the event, marking the conclusion of their five-year service to the Waimaro community as Mr. Lasaro prepares for a new role in the Methodist Church’s Nadera circuit.

In his speech, Mr. Lasaro highlighted that education extends beyond academic success and entails a holistic development of the mind and spirit. He stressed that parents play a crucial role in fostering an environment that values education and encourages personal growth, urging them to appreciate their children’s efforts, whether or not they received awards.

He introduced the school’s motto, “e namaki mo vua” (go beyond yourself), and echoed sentiments from U.S. First Lady Dr. Jill Biden about the comprehensive benefits of education. As he urged parents to prioritize their children’s welfare, Mr. Lasaro pointed to the importance of quality family time and the incorporation of Christian teachings at home to foster good values and character.

Highlighting the necessity of family leadership, he stated that a strong foundation at home is vital to combating issues facing today’s youth, such as drug use and teenage pregnancies. With the government’s financial assistance for education, he asserted that no child should drop out from school in the Waimaro region.

Dr. Ilisapeci Lasaro encouraged students to remain focused on their educational journey and to aspire for excellence. She shared a personal story about resilience and hard work, illustrating that success is attainable through dedication.

Significantly, Ratu Isoa Vuniamatana, the school’s DUX award winner, made history as the first male to receive this honor, expressing gratitude to his educators and family while wishing his peers well for their future endeavors. He aspires to attend the esteemed Queen Victoria School.

Overall, this celebration of educational achievement not only recognizes students’ hard work but also underscores the collective effort of families and the community in shaping a brighter future for the youth of Naitasiri. The messages shared at the ceremony foster hope and resilience, emphasizing that with support, students can reach their full potential.
