Nanise Rabonu, the head girl of Vunimono High School, received the esteemed Principal’s Award yesterday during the school’s annual prizegiving ceremony held at Nausori Hall. At just 18 years old, Nanise’s journey to this recognition has been filled with challenges and sacrifices, showcasing her remarkable leadership and resilience.

Expressing her gratitude, Nanise remarked, “Receiving the Principal’s Award was unexpected, but I am deeply grateful.” She emphasized that true leadership goes beyond authority, highlighting the importance of understanding the varied backgrounds of students while upholding the school’s core values.

Acknowledging her family’s influence, particularly her older brother—who won the same award in 2022—she shared, “He taught me the importance of respect and integrity in leadership.” Her path to leadership demanded significant personal sacrifices, which included making difficult decisions that at times affected her friendships. She reflected, “Some choices cost me dearly, but I have no regrets. I am thankful to God and my parents for their unwavering support when I needed it most.”

With a strong passion for empowering her peers, especially young girls, Nanise is committed to uplifting others. “We live in challenging times, and too often, girls are undervalued. I’m grateful to inspire and remind everyone of their worth,” she stated. Looking towards the future, Nanise hopes to become a flight attendant, eager to discover the world and its diverse cultures.

Her achievement not only solidifies her legacy at Vunimono High but also serves as a beacon of inspiration for students throughout the school community.

Nanise’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact of leadership grounded in empathy and integrity. Young leaders like her exemplify the importance of resilience and the role of mentorship in fostering future generations.
