Siteri Namere Nanovo’s journey to becoming the dux of Saint Thomas High School in Lautoka is truly inspiring. While many of her peers had smoother experiences supported by their families, Ms. Nanovo, at just 18 years old, has been shouldering significant responsibilities since her primary school days. With her father, Ratu Sela Vunakasi Nanovo, single-handedly raising her and her five siblings, she has learned the value of hard work and dedication.
“This dux trophy is for my Ratu,” Ms. Nanovo expressed, acknowledging her father’s sacrifices for their education and future. She shared how their mother left the family when she was young, which has driven her to strive for a better life for herself and her father. “I want to repay him by giving him a comfortable life,” she added.
Her father works in the construction industry, and their home in Natabua is just a short walk from the school. Despite the challenges, Ms. Nanovo remains grateful for her father’s support, highlighting his dual role as both mother and father. “It isn’t an easy journey,” she noted, but his constant encouragement fuels her determination.
The family faces hardships together, and Ms. Nanovo credits God’s strength for helping her balance her studies and responsibilities. With visions for her future, she plans to pursue a law degree at the University of Fiji next year.
