Fariza Ali, the dux of Labasa Muslim Primary School, finds inspiration in the legendary physicist Albert Einstein. The Year 8 student achieved an impressive score of 461 out of 500 during the recent annual prizegiving ceremony, where she expressed her determination to improve even further in the coming year.
With aspirations of becoming a dentist, Fariza has enrolled in Labasa College and dreams of earning honorary degrees in science, medicine, and philosophy, similar to Einstein’s accomplishments. “I feel blessed to have four siblings who are thriving in their respective fields—my brother is a police officer, another sibling is a doctor, one works as a clerical officer, and the youngest is a student at Fiji National University,” the 14-year-old from Nanuku St, Labasa shared.
Driven by a desire to make her family proud, Fariza aims to be the first dentist in her family. She extends gratitude to her parents, Tajmoon Nisha and Ashmat Ali, for their unwavering support and sacrifices while raising five children. Her father, a manager at Tebara Halal Meats Limited in Labasa, is the family’s sole breadwinner.
“Being the youngest, I do receive what I need, but I don’t take my privileges for granted. My parents instill in me the importance of hard work, and I feel fortunate to have access to education that allows me to pursue my passions,” Fariza remarked.
The school manager, Aiyub Khan, announced that Labasa Muslim Primary School is now accepting enrolments for the next academic year and will provide placements for students who may not find a spot elsewhere.

Fariza’s dedication serves as a powerful example for her peers, showing that with hard work and support from family, dreams can turn into reality.
