He encourages aspiring athletes to believe in themselves, drawing on the achievements of local sports icons such as Vijay Singh and Dinesh Chand as examples of what can be accomplished through hard work and determination.
Ikeda emphasizes the significance of discipline and dedication, advising young golfers to start practicing early and persevere through challenges. He recalls his own journey in golf, which began at the tender age of six, stating that while his initial enjoyment of the game was essential, maintaining focus and commitment led him to success.
During his visit, Ikeda experienced heavy rainfall initially, which was a disappointing start to his trip. However, he learned to embrace the local concept of “Fiji time” and has since appreciated the beauty of the island. Once the weather cleared, he was able to explore Denarau and play a round of golf at the Denarau Golf Club.
Ikeda has enjoyed a remarkable career since turning professional in 2008, winning at least one tournament each year from 2009 to 2017 and proudly representing Japan at international competitions, including the Olympics. His impressive accolades include a peak Official World Golf Ranking of 33rd and a total of 21 victories on the Japanese Tour.
