The Commission of Inquiry is approaching its conclusion, with just four witnesses remaining to provide their testimonies. Senior barrister and counsel to the Commission, Janet Mason, has expressed her satisfaction with the pace of the proceedings, which have progressed more swiftly than initially expected.

Mason noted that earlier delays were primarily due to extensive questioning. “What was supposed to take three hours sometimes took three days,” she remarked. However, she highlighted that the current phase is moving much more effectively, allowing for quicker testimonies.

One key witness, Alexandra Forwood, is still being questioned, and the Solicitor-General is set to appear next. Mason confirmed that other legal representatives, including Richard Naidu, have been actively engaged in the process. Naidu has been questioning Forwood throughout the previous day, and once he concludes, her testimony will be complete. “We have only half an hour to go, and then after that, I think we only have four witnesses left,” Mason stated.

Additionally, Mason addressed the commission’s request for legal opinion from a King’s Counsel, indicating that a response is anticipated by tomorrow.

This progress signifies a crucial step towards completing the inquiry, promising to bring clarity to the matters being investigated. The efficient handling of witness testimonies serves as a hopeful indication of the commission’s dedication to resolving outstanding issues.
