Inquiry into FICAC: Prime Minister Calls for Transparency

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has stated that a Commission of Inquiry is the most suitable and unbiased way to resolve allegations concerning the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). In response to comments made by former Acting Deputy FICAC Commissioner Francis Pulewai during an interview with international media, Rabuka emphasized that an independent inquiry would more effectively tackle the issues raised, especially those related to reported ministerial interference in FICAC investigations.

Rabuka noted, “If such an inquiry finds that there was indeed undue interference, the due process recommended by the Commission of Inquiry will need to be followed.” He also pointed out that there have been no amendments to the laws governing FICAC, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to upholding the law.

Regarding allegations of threats against Pulewai, the Prime Minister condemned any such actions if they occurred but clarified that he had not received any reports of threats, nor had these been communicated to him or the Fiji Police.
