Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has stated that a Commission of Inquiry is the most suitable and unbiased way to investigate the allegations concerning the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).

In response to an interview with former Acting Deputy FICAC Commissioner Francis Pulewai, Rabuka indicated that an independent commission would be better equipped to handle the issues raised, specifically those related to alleged interference by ministers in FICAC’s investigations.

“If such an inquiry finds that there was indeed undue interference, the appropriate processes recommended by the Commission of Inquiry will need to be followed,” Rabuka said. He emphasized that there have been no amendments to the laws governing FICAC and assured that the Government will continue to uphold the law.

Regarding claims that Pulewai faced threats, the Prime Minister condemned any such actions, if they occurred, and clarified that he had not been informed of any threats nor had these been reported to him or to the Fiji Police.
