Discussions are underway to integrate the Pacific Recycling Foundation’s Recycling On the Go (ROG) initiative with two programs from the University of New South Wales, according to foundation founder Amitesh Deo. This announcement was made during the ROG leadership forum held in Nadi this week.

Deo explained that these ongoing discussions were prompted by a referral from Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica and aim to establish direct links between the ROG program and the educational initiatives at the University of New South Wales. He expressed excitement about the potential opportunities for students involved in the Recycling On the Go program, suggesting that participants, including school leaders, might eventually engage in exchange learning experiences with the university.

Furthermore, Deo highlighted plans for a long-term study that could connect ROG students to various universities, including the University of New South Wales, potentially allowing ambassadors of the program to contribute to academic research after completing their 18 years of education.

The ROG initiative has gained recognition on a global stage, attracting interest from other educational institutions. Deo encouraged ROG ambassadors to share their concerns and insights from the forum, emphasizing the importance of accountability and the challenges they face in their advocacy for recycling and environmental justice. He reiterated that their voices hold significance that extends beyond recycling, directly impacting the broader environmental justice movement.

In light of these developments, there is hope that the collaboration between the Pacific Recycling Foundation and the University of New South Wales will foster innovative approaches to recycling and environmental education, inspiring future generations to engage actively in sustainability efforts.
