Pacific Specialist Healthcare Hospital in Legalega, Nadi, is advancing healthcare innovation with the launch of a new three-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This initiative aims to provide critical care for severely ill patients within the private sector in the Western region.
The ICU will accommodate critically ill tourists needing multi-organ support, advanced care, stabilization, and arrangements for medical repatriation to their home countries. Dr. Ratu Vereniki Raiwalui, the staff consultant intensivist and anaesthesiologist at PSH Specialist Hospitals, noted that this service will complement the perioperative and surgical services offered by the hospital.
The expansion of intensive care services is crucial, especially for open-heart off-pump procedures. Additionally, PSH Private Specialists’ Hospital has recently introduced 24-hour General Practitioner services to local communities in the Western corridor, including hotels and remote islands in the Yasawa and Mamanucas.
PSH Specialist Hospital offers a range of services, including emergency support, elective surgical services, perioperative anaesthetic services, advanced diagnostics, cardiovascular services, interventional cardiology, and obstetrics and gynecology. Upcoming services will include ophthalmology and pediatrics.
Director Parvish Kumar expressed a commitment to pushing the boundaries of specialist care, aiming to become the leading provider of patient-focused care in Fiji and the Pacific Islands. Clinical Director Dr. Sanson F. Fousaga highlighted that the hospital also offers specialist medical referral services to patients from Pacific Island nations. The introduction of intensive care services will enhance medical retrieval operations to ensure access to high-level specialist care at PSH Specialist Hospital.
