Innovating Care: New ICU Opens at Pacific Specialist Healthcare Hospital

Pacific Specialist Healthcare Hospital in Legalega Nadi is making strides in healthcare innovation with the launch of its new three-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

This facility is designed to serve critically ill patients in the private sector within the Western corridor. It will also accommodate tourists in need of multi-organ support, advanced intensive care, stabilization, and preparation for medical repatriation to their home countries.

Dr. Ratu Vereniki Raiwalui, a staff consultant intensivist and consultant anaesthesiologist at PSH Specialist Hospital, stated that this service will enhance the perioperative and surgical offerings at the facility. The new ICU is also essential for open-heart off-pump services.

In addition, over the past two weeks, PSH Private Specialists’ Hospital has rolled out 24-hour General Practitioner services for local communities in the Western corridor, extending these services to hotels and remote islands in the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups.

PSH Specialist Hospital offers a wide range of services, including emergency support, elective surgical procedures, perioperative anesthetic care, advanced diagnostics, cardiovascular services, interventional cardiology, obstetrics and gynecology, and upcoming ophthalmology and pediatric services.

Director Parvish Kumar expressed a strong commitment to expanding specialist tertiary and quaternary care, aiming to become the leading provider of patient-focused healthcare in Fiji and the Pacific Islands.

According to Clinical Director Dr. Sanson F. Fousaga, the hospital also provides medical referral services to patients from other Pacific Islands. The establishment of intensive care services will facilitate medical retrieval operations to and from these island partners, ensuring access to high-level specialist care at PSH Specialist Hospital.
