Iosefo Masi, the center for Swire Shipping Fijian Drua, suffered an injury during yesterday’s match against Rugby Football Club Los Angeles, which ended with a score of 33-26 in favor of Drua at Churchill Park in Lautoka. Masi, who had just returned to action after a four-month rehabilitation from a knee injury sustained during last year’s Pacific Nations Cup, was forced off the pitch just 13 minutes into the game due to a suspected hamstring injury. The prognosis suggests that he may face an additional four weeks of recovery, potentially sidelining him from the start of the Shop and Save Super Rugby Pacific season.

Despite his brief appearance in the match, Masi showcased his skills with effective breaks through the defensive lines, signaling his readiness to contribute significantly once fully fit. His previous injury had already caused him to miss crucial matches, including the final against Japan and the European Tour in November.

In related news, fellow teammate Joe Tamani is also working towards a comeback after spending a year with Colomiers Rugby Club in France. Tamani and Masi’s commitment and resilience are encouraging for the Fijian Drua as they prepare for the upcoming Super Rugby Pacific season. Co-captain Frank Lomani remains optimistic about the prospects for the squad, especially with eyes set on the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.

As fans await updates on Masi’s condition, the determination shown by him and his teammates in overcoming injuries is a testament to their dedication, offering a hopeful outlook for the Drua’s prospects in the upcoming season. With the physical recovery underway for Masi, the team anticipates a competitive performance ahead as they regroup and prepare for their first match in February.
