Ana Lutunauca, the captain of the Nasinu Amazon 7s, has expressed her dedication to her team following their two recent wins, despite facing injuries during the tournament. She recognizes the team’s potential and acknowledges the need for improvement, particularly in defense. “Our target is to win the women’s category in this tournament,” Lutunauca stated, emphasizing the importance of minimizing missed tackles and high tackles.

Having experience as a halfback and flyhalf in the XV’s format, Lutunauca shared her insights on the differences between the two styles of rugby. “The longer format of the game is easier as the forwards commit more, but sevens rugby requires more fitness and fewer players on the field,” she noted. This highlights the unique challenges faced by teams participating in the faster-paced game of sevens.

Lutunauca described her role as captain as demanding, as it entails fostering teamwork and cooperation among players. She appreciates the strong bond that has formed within the team, despite their diverse backgrounds from various provinces. “Our players are strong and talented with their own individual skillsets on the field,” she added.

In a gesture of gratitude, Lutunauca thanked their coach, Tomasi Katonivualiku, for his unwavering support and guidance. Looking ahead, she hopes to lead her team to victory in the tournament, dedicating the upcoming win to their coach.

This narrative is not just about the struggles and achievements in sports; it underscores the spirit of teamwork and resilience. Such dedication can inspire not only fans but also aspiring athletes facing their challenges, showing that with unity, great accomplishments are within reach.
