Defending champions Lautoka face a tough challenge ahead of their semifinal match in the Extra Battle of the Giants against a formidable Rewa side. The team has experienced an injury crisis, with nearly half of their starting lineup affected after a physically demanding pool stage encounter against Ba. Lautoka FA President Shalendra Prasad confirmed that key players, including Rodney Lava, Manasa Nawakula, Kishan Sami, Simione Nabenu, and goalkeeper Isikeli Sevanaia, are currently nursing injuries.

Sevanaia is unlikely to participate in the match, and his spot will likely be taken by Senirusi Bokini, who featured in the previous clash against Labasa. The health of striker Shazil Ali is also a concern, as he is in recovery from a fever. Despite these setbacks, players like Nabenu and Sami are eager to step up, fully aware of the importance of maintaining their title.

With seven regular starters from the previous year’s squad missing, Lautoka’s resolve to reclaim the trophy remains strong. President Prasad expressed confidence in the team’s preparation under coach Shivam Raj, stating, “Even with all these challenges, we are motivated to defend our title and return home with our heads held high.”

Lautoka’s semifinal match against Rewa is set for 4:30 PM today, following the earlier clash between Navua and Labasa at 2 PM. Fans can catch live commentary of the matches on Radio Fiji Two.

Evaluating the broader context of the tournament, Lautoka’s journey showcases resilience in the face of adversity, highlighting the team’s commitment to the sport and their loyal supporters. Football fans across Fiji anticipate a thrilling encounter, reinforcing the spirit of community and competition within Fijian football.
