The iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) intends to create conservation regions, according to the organization’s environment officer, Josua Waqanivalu. This initiative will organize comprehensive land use plans and landowner units mapping. During the Situation Analysis Workshop on Forest Landscape Restoration held in Nadi, Fiji, Waqanivalu disclosed plans to formalize these areas by leasing them to entities dedicated to environmental conservation.
The selection criteria for these sites, Waqanivalu revealed, would center on biodiversity and cultural importance. He further explained that the master land use plan featured a detailed outline of strategies for responsible land use, including specific demarcation and mapping to deter unauthorized activities.
In addition to safeguarding wildlife habitats and cultural heritages, the conservation areas will be leased out in partnership with the Ministry of Forestry to identify more suitable sites.
