The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Suva is dedicated to enhancing educational collaboration with Fiji, following a recent information session on Indonesian government scholarship programs. Held at the Talanoa Lounge within the Great Council of Chiefs Vale ni Bose Complex in Nasese, the session emphasized fully-funded tertiary education opportunities available for Fijian students.

Indonesia’s Ambassador to Fiji, Dupito Simamora, underscored the importance of education for development in Fiji and throughout the Pacific region. He remarked that education is fundamentally intertwined with culture, community, and resilience, and plays a vital role in advancing the objectives set forth in Fiji’s 2050 Strategy.

The ambassador highlighted how Indonesia’s educational initiatives are designed to align with Fiji’s National Development Plan as well as the 2050 Blue Pacific Strategy. The session presented a variety of scholarship options, including fully-funded programs for bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral studies under the TIAS and KNB schemes. These scholarships encompass diverse fields such as sustainable tourism, fisheries management, digital transformation, agriculture, health, technical and vocational education and training (TVET), entrepreneurship, as well as maritime and ocean science.

Simamora also emphasized the significance of alumni experiences in fostering stronger people-to-people relationships. He recognized the contributions of Indonesian scholarship alumnus Sokovoli Odrovakavula and current TIAS recipient Silivinosi Naulumatua, who is pursuing studies in Malang, East Java.

Ratu Tui Cavuilati, president of the Fiji Indonesia Friendship Association and former Fiji ambassador to Indonesia, encouraged officials to take full advantage of the scholarships and capacity-building programs Indonesia offers. He stated that Indonesia stands out as an example from which Fiji can learn and benefit, particularly in empowering its people, and reaffirmed that strengthening interpersonal relations will continue to be a priority for both nations.

This initiative represents a promising step towards greater educational exchanges and collaboration between Indonesia and Fiji, fostering not only individual growth but also mutual development in the region.
