In March 1984, Indian stars including disco and cabaret dancer Kalpana Iyer, renowned screen villain Ranjeet, and musician Bappi Lahiri arrived in the country for a highly anticipated performance. A report published on March 12 of that year stated that over 350 fans greeted the artists at Nausori Airport with enthusiastic cheers and garlands.
The dedicated crowd had waited more than four hours for the artists’ arrival, as they had experienced a delay in Nadi, where they stayed overnight. Iyer expressed that the trip to Fiji held significant importance for her and the group, as they aimed to leave with a positive reputation and the satisfaction of entertaining the audience.
She mentioned, “Everyone in the group is important, and their help is needed to make the show successful.” Iyer also shared her fondness for Fiji, stating that it reminded her of home because of the familiar food and language spoken with a different accent.
“I do not feel far away from home here. When I come to a place like Fiji, that is when I am proud to be an Indian,” she added. Iyer was committed to delivering a strong performance and expressed her hope of exploring a bit of Fiji during her visit.
