Netball Australia, in collaboration with the Australian Government’s PacificAus Sports program, has announced the inaugural PacificAus Sports Netball Challenge. This significant tournament is scheduled to take place from November 23-28, 2026, at Nissan Arena in Brisbane.

The PacificAus Sports Netball Challenge is designed to highlight and celebrate the talent of netball players from the Pacific region. Teams from Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga, and the Cook Islands will compete, providing a platform for these athletes to showcase their skills.

RubyAnn Sorovaki, President of Netball Fiji, expressed her excitement about the event, emphasizing how it offers local athletes a unique opportunity to engage in a national competition and potentially secure a place in their national squads. “With a high percentage of our athletes being locally based, a competition like this lifts opportunities for a wider cross-section of athletes to participate in our pathways and become possible squad members,” Sorovaki remarked.

The Challenge will not only benefit players but also focus on the professional development of local coaches, umpires, and bench officials, supporting various aspects of the Pacific netball ecosystem. This comprehensive approach aims to strengthen the sport throughout the region and provide valuable experiences for both athletes and officials.

This inaugural event represents a hopeful advancement for netball in the Pacific, fostering talent and offering new opportunities for growth within the sport.
