Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad has emphasized the importance of upholding truth, justice, and righteousness as Fiji celebrates Deepavali, also known as Diwali. In his festive message, the leader of the National Federation Party remarked that while the nation enjoys restored freedoms and rights following the Coalition Government’s election in December 2022, it is vital not to take these liberties for granted.
Professor Prasad drew parallels between the significance of Diwali and the responsibilities of the Coalition Government, likening their commitment to principled governance to the values demonstrated by Lord Ram in Ayodhya after overcoming adversity. He stated that the essence of Diwali should extend into everyday life, promoting honest and accountable governance for the benefit of all citizens.
He acknowledged the challenges faced by the Coalition Government as it works to reset Fiji’s moral compass after years of dictatorship, asserting the importance of prioritizing the lives of the people above political interests. The minister highlighted Lord Ram’s teachings of selflessness and sacrifice, urging national leaders to engage in constructive dialogue aimed at consensus-based solutions for lasting progress.
In a hopeful note, Professor Prasad’s message serves as a reminder that, like the lights of the diyas symbolizing hope and peace, the government is dedicated to fostering a spirit of unity and collaboration that can lead to a brighter future for all Fijians. By embodying these values, the Coalition Government aims to build a more just and equitable society.
