If you’re still contemplating Christmas gifts, consider visiting the Deo sisters at the MSME Festive Market, taking place at the Civic Centre Car Park in Suva. Mahima and Suhani Deo are showcasing their impressive collection of homemade candles and artwork, which make perfect gifts or lovely additions to your home decor.

Mahima shares that their candles are crafted using 100 percent soy wax, with a touch of gel wax for added appeal. “All of our candles are fragrant and scented,” she emphasized. The sisters have created products that reflect the beauty of Fiji, including island-inspired designs, dessert-themed candles, body candles, and a variety of sweet treats.

The duo founded their business, Alora Fiji, in 2021, channeling their creativity into this venture. Mahima, who returned to Fiji following their father’s passing, balances her regular job at a family restaurant with her passion for candle making. She expressed her desire to contribute to her family’s income while pursuing something she loves. “Fiji misses out on so many things, and with rising prices and added VAT, I aim to bring products that are more accessible to everyone,” she noted regarding her motivation for creating decorative candles.

This story not only highlights the entrepreneurial spirit of the Deo sisters but also reflects the bond of family and resilience in the face of adversity. Their dedication to making beautiful, locally accessible products can inspire others in the community to pursue their own passions and support local businesses this festive season.

As we approach the holidays, let’s celebrate the creativity and hard work of local entrepreneurs like the Deo sisters, who enrich our lives with their wonderful offerings.
