Illicit Drug Raids Lead to Seizures and Arrests Across Fiji

Multiple raids conducted in the past 24 hours led to the discovery of alleged illicit substances and money believed to be criminal proceeds.

Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations (ACP) Livai Driu reported that officers searched a group of youths cutting cane at a farm in Tabia yesterday. During the search, dried leaves suspected to be marijuana were found, resulting in arrests.

In another raid in Vunivau conducted by members of the Narcotics and Crime Intelligence Unit and the Fiji Detector Dog Unit (FDDU), several packets of dried leaves thought to be marijuana and cash thought to be proceeds from illicit sales were seized. A suspect was taken into custody.

In a separate operation in the Northern Division, the Cakau Operations team seized plants presumed to be marijuana from the Tacilevu area this morning. Police are currently working to locate the known owner of the farm.

Further, in Waqadra in the Western Division, officers from the Western K9 Unit and FDDU intercepted a vehicle suspected of transporting drugs early this morning. Upon searching the vehicle, they discovered a bag containing parcels of white substances believed to be methamphetamine. Three men have been detained for questioning.

All seized substances have been sent for analysis.

ACP Driu stated that the successful raids were a result of information shared by the public, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation. “The sharing of information is truly appreciated and should be a warning to those involved in the illicit trade that they will be caught,” he said.
