Three individuals, Lemeki Baleiwai, 29, Maciu Jiuta, 27, and Asaeli Susewa, 23, have been remanded by Suva’s Magistrates Court under serious charges including possession of illicit drugs and assault. The trio appeared in front of Resident Magistrate Sufia Hamza this afternoon.

Baleiwai is facing a charge for possessing illicit drugs, specifically marijuana, while Jiuta and Susewa are accused of seriously assaulting two police officers during a raid on November 18, 2024. The Police Prosecutor announced that all disclosures have been completed, with the defense confirming receipt of the information.

The case will continue with a bail hearing scheduled for November 29, in Court Four.

This situation highlights ongoing legal issues surrounding drug possession and assaults on law enforcement. While the charges are serious, the legal process allows for all parties involved to present their case thoroughly in court, reflecting the democratic principles of justice. It’s a reminder of the importance of law and order in society, and the potential for rehabilitation and positive change.
