In a unique collaboration, FNPF-owned IHG Hotels in Fiji have partnered with the non-profit organization Rise Beyond the Reef to bring the vibrant essence of local art and culture into every guest room. InterContinental Fiji, Grand Pacific Hotel, and Holiday Inn Suva now feature custom ironing board covers that are hand-printed by women and youth from rural communities, including individuals with disabilities.

The initiative, spearheaded by IHG Regional GM Lachlan Walker, is designed to enhance the guest experience while fostering a strong connection to Fiji’s rich cultural heritage. The partnership not only provides income and training for the artisans but also instills a sense of pride and purpose, allowing guests to engage with the local community’s traditions in a meaningful way.

This collaboration is part of a broader commitment by IHG hotels in Fiji to positively impact their local communities and environment. Previously, IHG has been involved in various sustainability and community support initiatives. These include environmental efforts like the ‘Litter for a Latte’ program, which removed substantial waste from Natadola beach, and the ‘If you can’t bin it, bag it’ rubbish awareness campaign. Additionally, IHG has raised significant funds for community projects focused on education, healthcare, and sustainability.

Moreover, IHG’s dedication extends to fostering local talent and celebrating Fijian music, as evidenced by their collaboration with Resonance Entertainment for ResFest: Our Journey. This event, supporting the country’s creative industries, underlines the importance the hotel chain places on integrating local culture into the hospitality experience.

These initiatives highlight the overarching mission of IHG to blend exceptional hospitality with a commitment to community and environmental stewardship. By intertwining guest experiences with authentic local culture, IHG not only enhances its hospitality services but also contributes to the sustainability and economic empowerment of the communities it serves. This model reflects a holistic approach to corporate responsibility, fostering a sense of community and cultural appreciation among guests while simultaneously supporting local development.
