Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne has hailed the addition of Ifereimi Rawaqa to the national coaching staff as a significant advancement for the team as they gear up for their upcoming international cycle. Byrne highlighted that Rawaqa, a former Flying Fijian and Fijian Drua coach, brings valuable expertise and experience, which is expected to enhance the team’s focus on contact and collision techniques.
Byrne noted that Rawaqa’s inclusion offers critical support to forwards coach Graham Dewes in his pivotal role. “He’ll be able to assist Graeme. Forwards coaching in international games is a big role, and Ifereimi coming in with his expertise will greatly benefit Graeme,” Byrne stated.
The coach also emphasized the expected impact of Rawaqa’s approach, which aims to establish consistency in how the contact area is coached throughout Fiji’s rugby framework. Rawaqa, who has recently been appointed as the Assistant Forwards and National Contact (Collision) Coach, expressed gratitude for this opportunity, stating, “I’m so grateful for the appointment and the trust shown. It’s an honor to be part of Fiji right now. I’m looking forward to working with players and coaches.”
Rawaqa’s appointment is anticipated to not only enhance Fiji’s physical game but also elevate high-performance standards across all levels of rugby in the nation, setting the stage for a promising future for Fijian rugby as they continue to build a competitive edge on the international scene.
