Hurricanes coach Clark Laidlaw has made significant changes to the team’s lineup for the upcoming season, bringing in nine new players. Brett Cameron has been announced as part of the squad, though he will be sidelined for an extended period due to an ACL injury. In an effort to bolster his roster, Laidlaw has welcomed back first five Riley Hohepa after his previous season with the Crusaders. Additionally, two locks from the South Island, Will Tucker from the Highlanders and Zach Gallagher from the Crusaders, will be joining the team.

Ere Enari is another new addition, having spent three seasons with Moana Pasifika, while rookies Tjay Clarke, Kade Banks, Arese Poliko, Fehi Fineanganofo, and Lucas Cashmore will also bring fresh talent to the Hurricanes.

With the departures of All Blacks Jordie Barrett and TJ Perenara, Laidlaw will need to tap into new leadership sources. Barrett is expected to return after a season in Ireland, but his absence will allow the highly-rated Riley Higgins the chance to establish himself in the midfield. Furthermore, the exit of Josh Moorby has opened opportunities for Clarke and Banks to secure spots in the back three.

The complete 2024 squad for the Hurricanes includes a mix of returning players and new signees who will aim to make their mark in the Super Rugby season.

This strategic recruitment not only reflects the team’s commitment to improvement but also showcases the potential for young players to step into critical roles, offering fans a hopeful outlook for the upcoming season.

Summary: The Hurricanes have added nine new players, including Riley Hohepa and Ere Enari, while addressing the loss of key figures like Jordie Barrett and TJ Perenara. The team is set for an exciting 2024 season, with new talent ready to seize opportunities.
