Hurricanes coach Clark Laidlaw has made a significant move for the upcoming season by introducing nine new players to the squad. Among these additions is Brett Cameron, who will be focusing on his recovery from a serious ACL injury. In a bit of positive news, Riley Hohepa is returning to the Hurricanes after spending last season with the Crusaders.

In addition to Hohepa, the team welcomes two locks from the South Island: Will Tucker from the Highlanders and Zach Gallagher from the Crusaders. Ere Enari joins the Hurricanes after a successful three-year stint at Moana Pasifika, and several promising rookies have also been brought on board, including Tjay Clarke, Kade Banks, Arese Poliko, Fehi Fineanganofo, and Lucas Cashmore.

As Laidlaw prepares for the season, he will need to establish new leadership following the departure of notable All Blacks Jordie Barrett and TJ Perenara. Though Barrett will return after a season in Ireland, his absence allows rising star Riley Higgins the opportunity to claim a starting position in the midfield. Additionally, with Josh Moorby moving on, Clarke and Banks have a chance to secure positions in the back three.

The Hurricanes’ squad for the 2024 season features a mix of experience and fresh talent, showcasing the team’s commitment to building a strong and competitive lineup.

In summary, the Hurricanes are embarking on a new chapter with fresh faces and opportunities, fostering hope that these changes will lead to a successful season ahead.
