The HSBC SVNS fever has made its way to Vancouver, kicking off an exciting series of back-to-back North American tournaments for both men’s and women’s competitions. As teams gear up for the end-of-season Championship series, expectations are running high at BC Place, which will host critical matches that could determine league standings.

In the men’s tournament, Fiji, fresh off their championship win in Singapore, currently leads the table and aims to maintain their spot as they head into a challenging Pool B, which includes formidable teams like Australia, Argentina, and France. Last year’s champions, Argentina, intent on bouncing back from a slow start to their season, will look to perform well in this crucial leg of the series.

South Africa, Cape Town winners, will take on New Zealand, Spain, and Great Britain in Pool A. Santiago Alvarez from Argentina shared a light-hearted remark about adjusting to Vancouver’s climate, highlighting the team’s eagerness to build on their previous successes in the city.

In the women’s competition, New Zealand has established a four-point lead over their traditional rivals, Australia, heading into this leg of the series. New Zealand, who displayed exceptional skill by winning in Perth, will face tough opponents in Pool A, comprising France, Japan, and Great Britain. Australia, crowned the Cape Town champions, will face USA, Canada, and Fiji in Pool B, ramping up the competitive spirit.

Canadian player Carissa Norsten expressed the excitement within the squad, especially with veteran players returning for this tournament. She emphasized the unique thrill of competing in front of a home crowd at BC Place, where the support from fans creates an unparalleled atmosphere. Determined to secure a podium finish, Norsten affirmed that the team would adhere to their established preparation process as they aim for success.

Fans attending the tournament can expect a festive environment, with family-friendly activities and fan zones set up over the two-day event. Additionally, spectators will have the chance to witness Canada’s men’s team, victorious in Dubai, compete against Japan and Chile in the Teck Tri-Nations Challenge, further enhancing the excitement surrounding the weekend’s events.
