Sixty families in the Valewaquyaya informal settlement in Ba are set to benefit from a housing upgrade project launched by the Minister for Housing, Maciu Nalusima. The initiative is part of the Ministry of Housing’s commitment to enhancing living conditions in informal settlements, considering it a crucial focus for the government.
Minister Nalusima emphasized that every Fijian deserves access to secure land tenure, basic infrastructure, and the opportunity for a better future, regardless of their background. The Valewaquyaya project is among two upgrading initiatives currently in the construction phase for the financial year 2024-2025, and it underlines the proactive measures the government is taking to tackle housing challenges at the community level.
Once completed, this project aims to provide improved living conditions for the sixty families, ensuring they have better access to essential services. Mobile Crane Hired Services Pte Limited has been awarded the contract for the upgrading works.
Minister Nalusima acknowledged potential challenges such as adjustments to boundaries and fences but expressed the need for continued community support to accommodate the infrastructure developments, which are crucial for adhering to road width and design specifications.
Overall, the project highlights the government’s ongoing dedication to enhancing housing conditions and providing opportunities for families to thrive within their communities.
