Sixteen families are left uncertain about their housing future as they report a lack of communication from the Public Rental Board (PRB). Residents of Jittu Estate Zone One had anticipated moving into flats at the new Lagilagi Estate, where initially, 36 families were promised homes. However, only 20 families have moved in so far, leading to confusion among those remaining.

Adi Kinisena Soleilagi, a long-term resident, expressed her concerns, stating that they had filled out forms for the relocation and were assured they would be among the first to occupy the new flats. Yet, she noted that families from other zones are being prioritized for relocation.

Another resident, Sera Salailagi, mentioned their repeated visits to the PRB office seeking updates, but they have received inconsistent information. The uncertainty surrounding their housing has left the 16 families worried about their future, especially with impending development plans for new housing in their area.

In response, PRB General Manager Timoci Naleba stated that the relocation process is not strictly zone-based but based on specific areas, particularly Area 296, from where the initial families were chosen. He acknowledged the community’s housing needs and confirmed that the remaining families from Zone One will be accommodated in an additional 16 flats currently under construction.

This situation highlights ongoing challenges within the housing sector, particularly the need for better communication and transparency from housing authorities. However, with proactive measures being promised by PRB and ongoing development plans, there is hope for improved living conditions for families in Jittu Estate in the near future. Continued dialogue between the PRB and the residents may pave the way for a resolution that meets the pressing housing needs of the community.
