Steamships Hospitality and Coral Sea Hotels recently celebrated a significant accomplishment with the Grand Papua Hotel and the Gateway Hotel and Apartments achieving the highly esteemed SafeHotels Certification. This certification is recognized worldwide as a leading benchmark in hotel safety and security standards.
The SafeHotels Certification is the first independent global initiative that sets rigorous standards based on best practices in safety, security, and hygiene for hotels around the world, which demonstrates a hotel’s commitment to prioritizing the well-being of guests and staff alike. Obtaining such certification is no small feat, with only about 20% of hotels achieving it on their first attempt, and even fewer attaining Premium status. The Grand Papua Hotel stands out in this category, becoming the first hotel in Australasia and the Pacific Islands to receive this Premium certification. The Gateway Hotel and Apartments has also met the certification standards.
Alan Christie, CEO of Steamships Hospitality, expressed his excitement and pride in the teams’ hard work. He praised their dedication over recent months to achieve such an impressive certification on their first submission, outlining that the thorough evaluation covered everything from preventive measures to crisis management policies, ensuring a comprehensive approach to safety and hygiene.
Guests can now choose to stay at the Grand Papua Hotel and Gateway Hotel and Apartments with confidence, knowing that these hospitality venues have participated in a stringent safety review and are fully equipped to manage guest safety and comfort.
Looking ahead, Steamships Hospitality aims to extend the SafeHotels certification initiative to all its properties across Papua New Guinea, striving for excellence in all operations with safety as the top priority. The successful certification of these hotels highlights the importance of safety and hygiene in the hospitality industry, especially in a post-pandemic world where guests prioritize these aspects more than ever.
This achievement not only enhances the reputation of the Grand Papua and Gateway Hotels but also sets a standard in the hospitality sector, potentially inspiring other hotels in the region to follow suit.
