HOTEC 2024: Where Hospitality Meets Innovation

As preparations commence for HOTEC 2024, excitement builds for the 16th iteration of this premier event in Fiji’s hospitality and tourism sector. Scheduled for October 24 and 25 at the Denarau Island Convention Centre and the Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort, HOTEC has transformed from its inception in 2003 as a local gathering to a significant fixture on the Pacific’s hospitality calendar, offering unmatched networking opportunities, innovative concepts, and pathways for industry growth.

Originally an annual event, HOTEC has evolved into a biennial highlight, creating anticipation every two years.

Started in 2002 to address a gap in the Pacific hospitality industry, HOTEC, which stands for the Hospitality, Tourism, and Equipment Conference, aimed to unite industry professionals, showcase trends, and foster connections. The inaugural event partnered with the International Travel and Tourism Consultants (ITTC), whose expertise contributed to shaping what has become a key event in the hospitality sector.

From the outset, HOTEC provided hoteliers, restaurant owners, suppliers, and industry stakeholders a platform for networking, discovering new products, and engaging in discussions about the future of hospitality and tourism. The tradeshow attracted more exhibitors and attendees over the years from across the Pacific and beyond, leading to the introduction of specialized zones for kitchen equipment, IT solutions, and hotel furnishings, streamlining the search for specific products.

As HOTEC’s reputation grew, so did its diversity of international exhibitors and speakers, showcasing the global nature of the hospitality sector. Incorporating educational seminars and workshops further enriched the experience for attendees, providing actionable insights to enhance their business practices.

In recent years, the focus has shifted towards digital transformation and sustainability trends, emphasizing the latest technological advances and eco-friendly practices. The event has also become increasingly interactive, incorporating live demonstrations and hands-on sessions for participants to experience innovations firsthand.

HOTEC’s expansion reflects its commitment to adapting to the hospitality industry’s evolving needs while maintaining its core mission of fostering connections and presenting the latest developments. While historically centered on Fiji’s tourism operators, the 2024 edition aims to attract hoteliers from across the South Pacific, providing exhibitors with a wider audience to market their products and services.

Current organizers of HOTEC include the Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association (FHTA), which is instrumental in ensuring the event meets industry demands and stays aligned with contemporary trends. The FHTA’s extensive industry connections and commitment to promoting Fiji as a premier tourism destination have been pivotal in making HOTEC a must-attend event.

Collaboration with various stakeholders, including local government bodies, industry associations, and corporate sponsors, enhances the event’s appeal, fostering a dynamic environment for participants.

This year, HOTEC is supported by platinum sponsors, the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) and Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ), with New Zealand Trade and Enterprise as a gold sponsor. These partnerships are vital for organizing such a significant event.

Several notable partners, including Australia Pacific Training Coalition, Finest Liquor, and Triple 3, South Pacific Coffee Company, and Fiji Gas, will contribute to the event’s competitions, adding an exciting element.

Moreover, key event partners such as The Fiji Times, Decked Out Apparel, FIJI Water, Microhire, Fiji Airways, Sharma Music, and Total Event Company play an essential role in shaping HOTEC into a vibrant and engaging experience.

Looking ahead to the 16th edition, attendees can expect several highlights, including a diverse range of exhibitors showcasing top-tier food and beverage offerings, equipment and furniture, waste management solutions, IT and security innovations, and sustainable product providers. This year’s emphasis on sustainability will spotlight eco-friendly practices, illustrating how the hospitality sector can effectively engage in environmental conservation.

Additionally, HOTEC 2024 will feature interactive sessions and live demonstrations, offering participants hands-on experiences and practical insights they can apply to their businesses.
