HOTEC 2024: A Game-Changer for the Tourism Industry!

Spread the love

As I reflect on the progression of the Hospitality, Tourism, and Equipment Conference, known as HOTEC, I feel a surge of excitement about our accomplishments.

When we initially introduced this tradeshow years ago, our vision was clear, albeit ambitious: to create a platform enabling direct connections between tourism suppliers and hospitality professionals—all under one roof. This goal became especially pertinent considering the challenges of staying current, improving productivity, reducing costs, and introducing globally recognized products to a small island in the South Pacific.

Fast forward to 2024, and HOTEC has transformed into a truly exceptional event. The small island has gained recognition as a bucket-list destination for travelers around the globe.

This gathering serves not only as an event but also as a celebration of the tourism industry, providing an opportunity to come together, share innovative ideas, and shape the future of tourism in Fiji and the broader South Pacific region.

We have broadened our exhibitor base, expanded the variety of products and services on display, and created a comprehensive program filled with informative sessions and competitions. These initiatives not only showcase the fantastic local talent but also address the need for training and skills development.

Whether you are a hotelier, hospitality professional, supplier, or simply passionate about tourism, I encourage you to join us at HOTEC 2024 and witness firsthand the direction in which this competitive industry is heading. You won’t want to miss it!

On October 23, the festivities will begin with the HOTEC Welcome Networking Cocktail, hosted by the ACT and NSW governments along with Pacific Trade Invest Australia. This event goes beyond enjoying cocktails that feature Australia’s finest food and beverages; it serves as a chance to connect with new suppliers and fellow hospitality enthusiasts.

Day One, October 24, will kick off with our Chief Guest, the Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon. Viliame Gavoka, officially opening the event. The HOTEC Barista Competition Finals will also take place, showcasing the incredible skills of our local baristas—a testament to the dedication that goes into crafting every cup of coffee, and I encourage everyone to come out and support them.

Information Session 1, entitled “Thriving and Inclusive Communities,” will take place from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM. This session will explore the importance of compliant working conditions and local employment opportunities. Supporting our communities is a core principle of sustainable tourism, and it will inspire new entrepreneurs looking to enter the industry.

In the afternoon, from 2 PM to 3:30 PM, we will host Session 2, “Prosperous Visitor Economy,” sponsored by PTI Australia. This session will focus on understanding taxation responsibilities and utilizing digital tools to enhance marketability, helping businesses thrive.

As Day One concludes, we’ll gather again for the HOTEC Networking Cocktail, hosted by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise. This informal gathering is a fantastic opportunity for networking and idea exchange that can spark exciting connections.

Day Two, Friday, October 25, will feature the HOTEC Chef and Cocktail competition finals, where the best chefs and mixologists will showcase their talents in a spirited atmosphere. This day will also include Information Session 3: “Healthy Islands and Oceans,” sponsored by Palmex International, focusing on resource management and promoting a pristine environment for tourism.

In the afternoon, from 2 PM to 3:30 PM, we’ll conduct Information Session 4: “Visible and Valued Cultures,” which will address the respectful management of visits to cultural sites and indigenous communities, ensuring that we approach these visits thoughtfully.

As HOTEC 2024 comes to a close, we’ll gather for the HOTEC Gala Awards Night, hosted by Austrade and Trade Investment Queensland. This event is an opportunity not only to acknowledge excellence in our industry but also to celebrate shared achievements and reflect on our journey.

These highlights are just a glimpse of what HOTEC will offer, with even more occurring throughout the two days, details of which can easily be found on the FHTA website.

Attending HOTEC 2024 presents a valuable opportunity to connect with industry leaders, exhibitors, and government representatives, fostering partnerships that can drive growth.

We have made arrangements to ensure seamless transportation for both attendees and exhibitors, making access to the event easy, even for those traveling from outside Nadi or as far as Suva.

So gather your teams, engage in important discussions, learn from industry leaders, and leave with strategies to advance your operations. We are committed to propelling this industry forward.
