Cancer patients in the Western Division of Fiji received a significant boost this week, thanks to the generous donation of a vehicle from the Challenge Group of Companies to the Fiji Cancer Society Nadi outlet. This vehicle is set to enhance the care provided to cancer patients, illustrating a strong commitment to community support.
Salesh Kumar, the group’s chief executive officer, emphasized the importance of their contribution, highlighting that supporting organizations like the Fiji Cancer Society aligns with their strategic goals. He expressed pride in being part of a mission that seeks to improve the lives of vulnerable individuals, particularly those affected by cancer.
“Challenge Group believes in more than just business; we prioritize fostering hope, supporting resilience, and forming impactful partnerships,” Mr. Kumar stated. He applauded the society’s dedication to research, education, and patient care, stressing that these efforts are crucial for moving towards a future where cancer is less of a threat.
He reflected on the core beliefs held by the founders of Challenge Group — Suresh Patel, the late Vidya Ben Patel, and current directors Pretisha Patel and Kapil Jekishan — which center around community support and advocacy.
In a statement by Belinda Chan, the chief executive officer of the Fiji Cancer Society, it was revealed that the organization has already supported over 332 patients from Sigatoka to Tavua. The society also conducts vital cancer awareness programs, emphasizing prevention and screening within underserved communities. The newly donated vehicle will significantly enhance their ability to reach more of these communities, addressing the pressing need for cancer awareness and screenings, such as cervical and breast cancer checks.
Mr. Chan expressed immense gratitude to Challenge Group, noting that this donation will have a profound impact on the services they provide. The collaboration between the two organizations embodies a hopeful outlook, reflecting a shared commitment to supporting and uplifting the community in the fight against cancer.
This partnership stands as a testament to the positive changes that can result from collective efforts dedicated to enhancing health and well-being, demonstrating how corporate responsibility can lead to significant community impact.
