Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital is set to host another series of free heart surgeries for children suffering from congenital heart disease, scheduled to take place from February 11th to 18th, 2025. This commendable initiative focuses on providing essential medical care to children not only from Fiji but also from neighboring Pacific islands.

Heading this significant mission is Professor Laszlo Kiraly, a renowned pediatric cardiac surgeon affiliated with the National University Hospital (NUH) in Singapore. He will be supported by a 22-member team that includes specialist medical professionals from NUH, a cardiologist from Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital in Palwal, India, and skilled pediatric ICU nurses from Australia.

This will be Professor Kiraly’s third collaboration with the Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital, following successful missions in July 2023 and September 2022, where he and his team performed a range of critical surgeries on children in need.

Dr. Krupali Tappoo, Director of Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital, expressed her heartfelt gratitude for Professor Kiraly and his remarkable team returning to Fiji to conduct these life-saving procedures. She noted that their work brings hope to families throughout Fiji and the Pacific region.

The initiative is made possible with the support of the National University Hospital Singapore and Fiji’s Ministry of Health, which is providing local medical personnel to assist during the surgeries.

To highlight the hospital’s achievements, Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital has successfully performed a total of 351 free heart surgeries thus far, in addition to conducting over 26,922 free echocardiograms through its screening center and outreach programs. Dr. Tappoo emphasized the importance of extensive heart screenings across Fiji, including outreach to remote areas like Kadavu and recently to Kiribati, which are crucial for early detection and timely intervention.

Reaffirming the hospital’s dedication, Dr. Tappoo stated that they will continue providing free heart screenings throughout Fiji and the Pacific Islands, ensuring that every child in need receives proper surgical care and follow-up treatment. This ongoing mission underscores the hospital’s steadfast commitment to improving children’s heart health and fostering a brighter future for families in need.

This initiative demonstrates a positive impact on cardiovascular health among children in the region and reflects a collaborative effort to ensure that healthcare reaches those who need it most. It embodies a spirit of hope and humanity, making a significant difference in countless lives.
