Reverend Hemraj Mangal, the executive director of Adult and Teen Challenge (Fiji), shares insights on the limitations of medical interventions for individuals recovering from drug addiction. Speaking with The Fiji Times’ online platform, The Lens@177, Mr. Mangal expressed that while such interventions can provide short-term help, many individuals soon revert to their previous habits after treatment.
He pointed out that global statistics indicate that medical solutions often fail to empower individuals to overcome their addiction in the long term. “What is essential,” Mr. Mangal noted, “is the implementation of programs that effectively curb the cravings for drugs.”
A significant challenge highlighted by Mr. Mangal is the widespread belief that once someone becomes an addict, they remain one for life. He emphasized the importance of changing this narrative, stating, “We want to educate the entire nation that recovery is always possible for those who have struggled with addiction. Adult and Teen Challenge is committed to assisting individuals in reclaiming their lives.”
Mr. Mangal voiced concern about the notion that discussions about the crisis are overshadowing tangible actions. He pointed out that, despite acknowledgment from government officials about the growing crisis, actionable solutions remain scarce, urging a call for collaboration in addressing these challenges more effectively.
With a message of hope and determination, he stated, “Adult and Teen Challenge (Fiji) is here to restore hope and transform lives. Let’s not just talk, but work together with us to facilitate real change for those in need.”
This news brings an optimistic perspective, as it highlights not only the challenges faced by those recovering from addiction but also the proactive stance of organizations like Adult and Teen Challenge in fostering recovery and support.
By emphasizing education, community support, and actionable solutions, there’s potential for a brighter future for those battling addiction, showcasing the resilience and willingness to foster change within society.
