Seven dialysis patients at the Kidney Specialists Hub in Sigatoka are relieved from their medical bills for upcoming visits, thanks to timely support from the Canadian Empowerment Women’s Foundation. Founded by Andy Chand, the organization facilitated this aid through donations from members in British Columbia.

Chand emphasized the significance of dialysis in maintaining a normal life for patients but noted the high costs associated with the treatment. His foundation chose to support the Kidney Hub after researching places in need, driven by their commitment to assist Fijians undergoing dialysis.

Anita Reddy, the organization’s secretary, reiterated their focus on aiding vulnerable communities through fundraising efforts for disaster relief, education, and health support. Their initiatives also extend internationally, as they have previously offered assistance to Ukraine. The foundation has collaborated with well-known organizations like the Canadian Red Cross Society and the British Columbia Children’s Hospital, reinforcing its mission of delivering essential health services.

This kind of community-driven support showcases a broader commitment to improving healthcare access for those facing financial hardships, such as the challenges recognized by health initiatives in Fiji aimed at expanding treatment options and resources. Noteworthy is the ongoing efforts in the region to enhance healthcare capabilities, such as those led by Dr. Amrish Krishnan, a nephrologist dedicated to training local healthcare professionals and improving renal care upon his return to Fiji.

The commitment shown by organizations like the Canadian Empowerment Women’s Foundation adds a beacon of hope for those affected by health crises, emphasizing the power of collaboration and compassion in healthcare delivery. These efforts reflect an uplifting perspective on improving the lives of dialysis patients and expanding support systems within local communities.
